Poem is a parody of "Sir Joseph Porter's Song" ("When I was a Lad I served a Term") from H.M.S. Pinafore, or, The Lass that Loved a Sailor (1878); appended letter following poem insists that Philips assume ownership or at least claim it was received anonymously.
